Yacht Dice Rules & Scoring

Want to learn how to play Yacht Dice? Yacht is a five-dice game where you roll up to three times per turn, hold the dice you want to keep, and choose one scoring category. This guide explains the Yacht Dice rules, scoring combinations, upper-section bonus, strategy, and how to win.

How to Play Yacht Dice

Roll all five dice to begin your turn. After the first and second rolls, hold any dice you want to keep and reroll the rest. You may roll no more than three times in a turn. When you are ready, choose one unused scoring category. Your score is recorded there and that category cannot be used again.

Yacht Dice Scoring: Categories and Point Values

Every category rewards a different dice pattern.

Ones โ€“ Sixes: Add only dice that match the selected number. Example: 6, 6, 3, 2, 1 scores 12 in Sixes.
Three of a Kind: At least 3 matching dice. Score the total of all five dice.
Four of a Kind: At least 4 matching dice. Score the total of all five dice.
Full House: Three of one number and two of another. Worth 25 points.
Small Straight: Four consecutive numbers, such as 2-3-4-5. Worth 30 points.
Large Straight: Five consecutive numbers, such as 1-2-3-4-5. Worth 40 points.
Yacht: All five dice show the same number. Worth 50 points.

Chance: Any five dice. Score the total of all dice.

How Does the Yacht Dice Upper Bonus Work?

Reach 63 or more total points across Ones through Sixes to earn a 35-point bonus.

Can You Score Zero in Yacht Dice?

Yacht Dice Strategy Tips

Do not chase every rare combination. Watch your upper-section bonus, use Chance as a safety net, and decide when a zero is less costly than wasting a strong score.
